Over the years I have attended many conferences, workshops, have held various certifications and pursued continuing education relevent to the work, I know that FIRST AND FOREMOST, my experience as a Mother is not only the impetus to becoming a Doula, it is also the wellspring from which I draw consistently, time and time again.
Having to educate myself, access resources and fiercly advocate on my own behalf, throughout the pregnancy, birthing, breastfeeding and raising of each of my Children - especially the first - has been an "unschooling" of all that is so often presented as "This is how it is." Exploring intuitively for myself as well as having learned from Women who have done likewise, has allowed me to understand and afford pregnant and birthing Women, the same opportunity to find the path that they instinctively feel most drawn to.
As the years pass, continued passion and inspiration for supporting Women and their Families, comes from the Mothers' and Families themselves as well as the Natural Births Advocates I have had the grand privilege to work alongside.
For it is from those, who trust in and source from their understanding of the " Biological Blueprint," that I continue to gain new insights.
When I hold the space for a Woman to rely on her own emergent maternal instincts rather than upon social and cultural contsructs or trends only, she finds that which she needs to facilitate her own natural philosophy of Birthing and Parenting.
I have benefited from and truly understand the importance of sharing wisdom gained as well as greatly value and uphold the reality that life experience, independent study and apprenticeship are not only valid credentials but indeed, essential
